Yet another incident similar to Saathaankulam Case in Tamil Nadu? The police brutality seems like it never stop in any near future. You could have noticed #Justice_for_Saravanan across various social media sites. A Sadhu also known as Sivan Adiyaar called Saravanan from Namakkal, Tamil Nadu has commited suicide. This incident is not similar to other suicides. Saravanan the Sadhu was beaten up by the area Sub-Inspector of police Antony Michael. The Sadhu was beaten up before his family members. Saravanan’s both the children witnessed what was done to their father by SI Antony Michael. This led to depression which motivated Saravanan to end his life.

Saravanan recorded a video few moments before committing suicide. In the video Saravanan Stated that he was beaten up by Sub-Inspector of police Antony Michael and he also abused Saravanan for his Sadhu appearance. The reason given by the Sub-Inspector for beating the Sadhu was because he was performing spiritual Pooja. The Hindu Makkal Katchi are stating that this brutality has a hidden religion discrimination motive. The Sadhu is said to perform rituals and he can also heal people as well. The Sub-Inspector did not like this act of Sadhu and he took him to the police station and beat brutally at the police station.

Next day his relatives and friends went on searching him and got no luck in finding him. Later police got reports from people around and they found dead body of Saravanan in decayed state. Saravanan also stated in the video that he is very much depressed about the way in which he was treated by Antony Michael and that’s why he took the decision to commit suicide, Saravanan also stated that his spirit would not leave Antony Michael and his family to live in peace.

This incident was not able to get the attention as Saathaankulam Case got since he is a Sadhu and from a small geographical location. The geographical location and he is a Sadhu became an obstacle for this issue to get people’s attention. Do the police person need psychological support or training? Are the authority power given to the wrong hands?
